Binotto puts panic into perspective: "Then the tyres don't work properly"

Ferrari is having a hard time this season and that became painfully clear once again on Friday in Belgium. Team boss Mattia Binotto says he knows why Ferrari are underperforming, the team seems to have already found the reason for the poor performance.

Tyres at work

"We had problems getting the tyres to work. We lacked grip when braking and accelerating and therefore performance in the car", says Binotto to Formel1.de. Ferrari was so slow that it was even behind Alfa Romeo, a Scuderia customer team. "We certainly weren't competitive", says Binotto.
According to Binotto, the downforce is part of the tyre problem. "If you don't go outside at the right time, the tyres won't work properly. And if you don't have grip, you're not fast in the second sector."

Troubleshooting on Saturday

Ferrari hope to be more competitive again on Saturday by solving the problem. "The situation is the same for both cars, so it has nothing to do with the drivers. It's just how we adjust the car to get the right window", Binotto ends.
