Nyck de Vries will not be in action during the third free practice session for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The Dutchman was diagnosed with engine problems just before the start of the final practice session. The AlphaTauri car and power unit are currently being worked hard on, but De Vries will miss VT3 anyway.
It will not result in a grid penalty does not result for the 28-year-old driver. After all, he has not changed engine components before. Exactly what kind of problems de Vries has is not yet known. During Friday's practice sessions there was no noticeable problem with the AlphaTauri.
De Vries is not the only one experiencing an engine change this weekend. Charles Leclerc already received changes to his electronics in addition to a new engine, causing the Ferrari driver to incur a grid penalty of ten places. Carlos Sainz's Ferrari also received a new engine, as did the McLaren of Lando Norris. Sergio Perez has received a new battery and control electronics.
De Vries will be hoping for a better weekend than the opening race of the season. The Dutchman dropped out in the first round of qualifying and eventually finished the race in 14th place.
