Alexander Albon is driving a full season for Red Bull Racing for the first time in this special year. In an interview Max Verstappen's team mate discusses his personal ambition within the team and the issue of racism.

Bowing or not bowing against racism?

As an Asian rider, Albon is on the starting grid. The driver is half Thai and half British. In an interview by Sky Sports journalist Ted Kravitz asks Albon about his experiences with racism. The Red Bull driver chose to bend together with initiator Lewis Hamilton before the race, in contrast to his Dutch teammate.
"I'm privileged because I grew up largely in England. Personally, I have had no unpleasant experiences of racism as a driver but I do want to give my support against racism". Formula 1 is well viewed worldwide and Albon realizes that they can do something with it: "We have a platform with which we can reach a lot of people and we have to make use of that, so I want to show my support".

Max Verstappen's teammate is not yet close to the Dutchman and has no podium behind his name. In Brazil last year and a few weeks ago in the opening race of Austria he was close. Still, getting on the podium is not a goal in itself for him.
"I don't really think I necessarily need a podium to make another step. I'm not doing that. I don't have that I should be here she or there. I want to help the team and the car, that's the most important thing for me. Of course I would like to go to the podium but I don't need it to make some more progress", the driver concludes a bit too modest.
