'Ferrari tends to make short term decisions'

Technical director of Mercedes James Allison thinks he knows why Ferrari's team leadership is wrong. Things have been difficult at the Scuderia since the start of this season. Allison himself has a past at Ferrari.

Time for renewal

Allison thinks Ferrari's management style may be outdated. The team also has to meet high external expectations due to its great history. "Internally, this is most clearly expressed by top-down management. This is probably much more pronounced at Ferrari than at other teams", said Allison at the FIA press conference for the Hungarian Grand Prix according to Motorsport-Total.com.
Such an organisation is doomed to fail in Formula 1 according to Allison. "It means you have a tendency to make short-term decisions. And that, in turn, can cause you to lose direction instead of building up the basic strengths that you could take from one year to the next."

Own experience at Ferrari

Allison does make it clear that he doesn't want to push Ferrari into the ground. "I wouldn't have gone to Ferrari a second period [2013, after a first period between 2000 and 2004] if it had been a terrible experience to work there. I have spent two important parts of my career at Ferrari."
