Christijan Albers
Christijan Albers was active as a Formula 1 driver from 2005 until the end of 2007. Today, the Eindhoven-born Dutchman is best known for his work as an analyst for Viaplay, a role he has held since 2022.
Christijan Albers in Formula 1
Albers earned a Formula 1 seat in 2005 after competing in various series, including International Formula 3000 and the DTM. In 2003, the Brabant native finished second in the German Touring Car Championship. His F1 debut came with the Minardi team in 2005.
His rookie year proved to be his most successful in Formula 1. At the United States Grand Prix, Albers scored his only career points with a fifth-place finish. This result was largely due to the fact that all 14 cars running Michelin tyres withdrew from the race for safety reasons, leaving only six starters.
In 2006, Albers moved to Midland F1 Racing, formerly Jordan. The season was difficult, and he failed to score any points. In 2007, the team was taken over by Spyker, but after another run of disappointing results, Albers was replaced mid-season. This marked the end of his F1 driving career.
Christijan Albers as Caterham F1 Team Principal
In 2014, Albers returned to Formula 1 after stints in the DTM and the American Le Mans Series. He replaced Cyril Abiteboul as team principal of Caterham. However, his tenure was short-lived: after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix that year, the team withdrew from Formula 1, ending Albers’ time as team boss.
Christijan Albers as F1 Analyst
Today, the 46-year-old works as a regular analyst for Viaplay. On broadcasts, he is often joined by Tom Coronel and Giedo van der Garde.
