Right before the start of the new Formula 1 season, Lewis Hamilton has to look for a new race engineer. His obvious first choice won’t be in his ears again, GPblog understands. In the end, Riccardo Adami's departure came as a surprise. A week ago,
Ferrari stated that the Italian would be working alongside Hamilton in 2026 as well—despite a turbulent first season together.
This will no longer be the case, the team confirmed today.

Bonnington stays with Mercedes
Following Adami’s move to the
Ferrari Academy, Hamilton now has to find a new confidant on the pit wall right before the first test. The Brit would certainly have liked to bring his Mercedes-era race engineer, Peter Bonnington, to Italy. However,
GPblog has already learned that this definitely won’t happen.
In 2026, Bonnington—better known as Bono—will remain as the race engineer for Kimi Antonelli, the German team’s young talent.
Ferrari has stated that Adami's successor will be announced soon.
