Formula 1 has just announced a multi-year extension of its historic television rights partnership with Sky across the UK, Ireland and Italy, with the sport set to remain on the British broadcaster until 2034 in the UK and Ireland, and until 2032 in Italy. Formula 1 to continue with Sky across UK, Ireland and Italy
While streaming is continuing to grow rapidly in Formula 1 across the United States, with Apple TV becoming the sport’s official broadcaster overseas from this year onwards, the UK and Italy will continue to rely on Sky, which is set to remain the official broadcaster for many more years to come.
Under the renewed agreement, Sky will continue to provide full live Formula 1 coverage across the UK, Ireland and Italy, including every practice session, qualifying, Sprint and Grand Prix through
Sky Sports, Sky Sport Italia and the NOW streaming platform. British fans will still be able to watch free-to-air highlights of every race weekend, while the British Grand Prix will remain available live on free television in the UK.
In Italy, all Formula 1 sessions will continue to air live on Sky Sport
F1, with TV8 once again offering selected free-to-air coverage, including every Italian Grand Prix live. The deal also ensures Sky retains broadcasting rights for Formula 2, Formula 3, F1 Academy and the Porsche Supercup as part of its motorsport portfolio.
Stefano Domenicali, President & CEO of Formula 1, commented on the news by saying:
“Sky has always been a dedicated, trusted, and passionate partner since we began our relationship many years ago. “Their world leading approach to live broadcasting, content creation, and behind-the-scenes analysis led by a truly amazing group of on-screen talent has made the difference in continuing to grow our sport in the UK, Ireland, and Italy and I am delighted we will be taking our partnership into the next decade. I want to thank Dana and all the team at Sky for their determination to get this deal in place and to continue to bring the excitement of Formula 1 to our passionate fans.”
Dana Strong, Group CEO Sky, added: “We’re proud of the role we’ve played in supporting the sport’s growth through world-class storytelling, innovation and long-term investment. This new agreement secures Sky as the home of Formula 1 for years to come, as the sport enters an exciting era with more British talent on the grid and rising stars like Kimi Antonelli. I want to thank Stefano and the F1 team for our continued partnership, which we’re excited to build on in the years ahead.”
