Adrian Newey was taken to hospital amid a health scare and is recovering, which is why he was not in Miami, so claims the Daily Mail. The Aston Martin top designer and current team principal has reportedly suffered an illness that required hospital treatment, with his recovery taking several weeks, according to the British tabloid. While Newey only attends a select number of Grands Prix each season, with Chief Trackside Officer Mike Krack usually handling media duties, it is also claimed that he missed the Miami Grand Prix due to this illness.
'Newey is working from home for now'
Based on a well-placed source, it is claimed that he is mostly working from home at the moment in order to help put Aston Martin back on track after the team’s difficult start to the 2026
Formula 1 season. So far, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll are yet to score a single point. In Miami, they finished P15 and P17 respectively, and are only able to challenge Cadillac at the bottom of the grid amid vibration issues with the Honda power unit. The next opportunity to improve will come in three weeks' time at the Canadian GP.
The Silverstone-based team also responded to the article. A spokesperson reacted: "We don’t comment on personal matters relating to any of our team members. Adrian is working and was on campus last week."
