Martin Brundle praised Max Verstappen's recovery after his spin at the Miami Grand Prix. The Dutchman lost control of his car into Turn 2 but avoided contact with the cars around him. After the start of the Miami Grand Prix, the
Red Bull Racing driver was running in second place behind Charles Leclerc before losing control of his RB22. Verstappen spun 360 degrees but was able to continue, despite losing several positions.
In his Sky Sports column, former
F1 driver Brundle marked the incident unusual, but also saw the genius of Verstappen. He writes:
"In front of the whole pack except Leclerc, he deftly used the throttle, brakes, and steering wheel to execute a full 360-degree turn, pointing nicely down the racetrack and somehow maintaining some forward speed. "I can't tell you how hard that is in these plus-sized F1 cars full of fuel in the heat of battle. This dramatically minimised the chances of being run into and kept him in ninth place at the end of the lap."
Brundle enjoys battles involving Verstappen as well in Miami
Later on, on older harder tyres after being the only frontrunner to pit under the Safety Car, Verstappen had to defend from Kimi Antonelli and Lando Norris. Brundle also found those battles interesting to watch. He adds: "It was very enjoyable watching the pair of them catch and pass Max Verstappen who just wouldn't give a centimetre despite needing his tyres to survive the remaining 50 laps."
