Max Verstappen is out of qualifying early. The Dutchman was in good shape throughout the session, but on his last lap, Lance Stroll crashed and caused a red flag. Verstappen was 12th, and the session did not resume. Due to his five-place grid penalty, Verstappen will start in P17 later on today.
For a long time, it seemed that Lando Norris had more chance of being eliminated from the session early. The Brit was outside the top ten after the first red flag in Q2 but managed to improve when the lights turned green. Verstappen was in a good position all the time, except in the final phase of the session. The Dutchman was just entering his last run when things went wrong for Stroll. The Canadian lost control of his car in the first sector and caused double waved yellows, then a red. Verstappen, who was on a hot lap, was unable to complete his lap and was therefore eliminated in P12. Sergio Perez was unhappy to also be eliminated in Q2 with a lap time that was only good enough for 13th.
