F1 Full Results | Russell takes Pole Position for Canadian GP

George Russell has secured Pole Position for the Canadian GP after beating Kimi Antonelli to top spot in a dramatic qualifying session at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Pole-sitter Russell's lap time of 1:12.578 was enough to edge out Antonelli after the final runs of Q3.

The fight between Russell and Antonelli thrilled to the very end, with Russell taking Pole on the grid's second to last attempt. Sky's Martin Brundle said: "What a brilliant qualifying! Pure class from the lot of them. Full commitment. The drivers went out and through caution to the wind, gave it everything."

Rounding out the top three was McLaren's Lando Norris, with his teammate Oscar Piastri just behind him in P4, and Hamilton P5.

Red Bull's Isack Hadjar was top in Q2, but he could only manage P7 behind his teammate Max Verstappen, who complained about his RB22 yet again on team radio.

Charles Leclerc struggled all throughout qualifying, finishing in P8, ahead of Arvid Lindblad and Franco Colapinto, respectively, in the final points positions.

Speaking after Qualifying, Russell said: "That last lap came from nowhere. It was such a great feeling when it was such a challenging session and you pull it altogether on that last lap to throw yourselves up the leaderboard is epic.

"We made some changes based on the forecast for tomorrow. It may have hurt us a bit for now. It put the car out of sync a little bit.

"Kimi was more competitive than I and we weren't as clear ahead of everyone else as yesterday, so it was a challenge but I redialled my driving and put it together."

Q2 saw a close battle to make the final 10, with Pierre Gasly beaten by his Alpine teammate Franco Colapinto again - the Argentine made it into Q3 just behind Lindblad in P10.

At the back of the grid, Aston Martin's woes have continued, with drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll failing to make it out of Q1 alongside both Cadillacs.
