Wolff understands Red Bull's reaction: "No hard feelings for them or Max"

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff showed his most emotional side during and after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, in which he saw Max Verstappen win the world title at the last minute. Protests and a boycott of the FIA awards gala followed, but he has calmed down somewhat now.
The Austrian hopes that lessons can be learned from the events in the final stages of the race. He claims his comments after the race were made out of emotion and shows understanding for the reaction of Red Bull Racing chiefs Christian Horner and Helmut Marko.

"I can understand that when you have won the race and therefore the title, a protest can be frustrating," said Wolff according to FormulaRapida.net. "I don't have a bad word to say about Christian, Helmut, Red Bull or Max. They were worthy competitors this year."
The Mercedes team boss also acknowledged that Verstappen in particular has had more bad luck during the past season and that the balance may have recovered somewhat, but that the decision just before the end in Abu Dhabi simply hit hard.

Still, he enjoyed the battle with Verstappen and Red Bull. "In the end they won the championship and that has to be recognized," continued Wolff, who suspects that the mutual understanding between the teams will strengthen the bond between them. "I think it also binds us together more strongly in the future," he added.
