Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believes that the
Ferrari battle between four-time champion
Sebastian Vettel and new arrival
Charles Leclerc is a "luxury problem" for the Italian team.
No stranger to the inter-team battle having dealt with
Lewis Hamilton's and Nico Rosberg's acrimonious times as teammates at Mercedes, Wolff said the issue was a good one to have for Ferrari.
Many have tipped Leclerc to upset the established order at Ferrari and take the fight to Vettel whereas others maintain Vettel will comfortably fend off the young prospect.
Although the new Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto has already said the team will be making Vettel their primary focus for 2019, Wolff insisted that it was a good position to be in.
“With Leclerc they have a future champion in the car, and with Sebastian they have a four-time champion. So I think it’s a luxury problem for them,” he explained at a sponsor event in Turin.
“Difficult is the wrong word. I think it is better to say challenging. We have had that situation before and in fact we have it every year.
You want to have two competitive drivers to compete for the constructors’ championship."
