Formula One teams will face some major changes in the sport in 2022. Combined with the budget cap, it is therefore not easy to keep developing the car this season, as Toto Wolff has experienced.
The Mercedes team boss knows that Lewis Hamilton isn't having an easy time competing with Max Verstappen this year, but the Englishman shouldn't expect many updates though, because Mercedes are already looking forward to next season.
Wolff thinks it makes perfect sense for several teams to adopt this strategy. "You also have to look at 2022," the team boss commented in conversation with Motorsport.com. "Unless you have a magic wand, you will start next year with a deficit. I'm sure most teams have stopped their development for 2021. But if you continue to develop, it will very definitely give you an advantage this year."

Mercedes and Red Bull in the championship

Red Bull are also ahead of its rivals in the Constructors' Championship. The Austrian team have scored 289 points, while Mercedes has four points less. McLaren is in third place, 122 points behind Mercedes.
