Wolff: 'Bit weird that Red Bull is protesting so loudly about it'

Red Bull Racing's high top speed has been the subject of much debate for several weeks now. First Mercedes claimed that it was caused by the sagging rear wing and now the Honda engine is being pointed out as the 'culprit'. Despite a simple explanation from Max Verstappen, Toto Wolff still has his doubts.

Verstappen said earlier that the difference in top speed between Red Bull and Mercedes is very easy to explain when you look at the rear wings of both teams. The Mercedes rear wing is a lot bigger and therefore generates more drag. Horner and Marko came up with a similar explanation. The fact that Red Bull are so defensive when the suggestion is made that the extra speed is produced by the Honda engine, is a bit suspect according to Wolff.

"I wonder why that is such a topic, when we all know that the power units need to be homologated," the Mercedes team boss is quoted by Motorsport.com. “I’m really surprised that the Red Bull guys keep protesting so loudly on the power unit story. So that is a bit weird."
