Williams have moved to deny speculation that the team could be set to enter a partnership similar to the one in place between
Ferrari and Haas.
The team based out of Grove have had a very poor start to the 2018 season and rumours have begun to do the rounds that the team could be looking to their power unit suppliers Mercedes to bail them out of trouble with a technical agreement between the two.
Reports point to driver
Lance Stroll’s father Lawrence Stroll to have offered the team an opportunity to begin such an agreement by funding the costs a technical relationship would pose.
Such an agreement would cut costs for the struggling team with less staff required as well as less research and development required in-house, instead using more parts on the Mercedes cars for their own 2019 challenger.
Team principal Clair Williams told Autosport that such an agreement wasn’t in place and that she did not know where the rumours had originated from.
"I don't know where that story has come from. We are a constructor.
"Frank (Williams) and Patrick (Head) fought for our independence for decades, and they did an incredibly good job.
"One of my responsibilities is to protect our independence. And that's incredibly important to us."
