A few days ago Aston Martin announced that Sebastian Vettel will officially stay with the team in 2022. The German is now driving his first season for Aston Martin, after Ferrari did not want to extend his contract any further.
There were rumours that Vettel might retire after this season, but nothing could be further from the truth. We will see the former world champion back on the grid next year. Lance Stroll will also remain Vettel's teammate in 2022.

Does Vettel still have a chance at a title?

In the liveblog of Motorsport-Total.com Ralf Schumacher gives his opinion on the contract extension of 34-year-old driver. "When Aston Martin can finally fight for the title, I don't think Vettel will drive in Formula 1 anymore. I see it negatively for Aston Martin at the moment", Schumacher was quoted.
According to Schumacher, there are teams that have a better chance of winning a title in the near future. "Others are in a better position, for example McLaren." However, Schumacher is happy that Vettel is not leaving Formula 1 just yet. "He wants to move on now - and I think that is good, also for us in Germany. At this point in his career there are only two options: Either I stay with the family or I keep driving." So Vettel chose the latter. It remains to be seen whether he will ever have the chance to compete for the world championship again, but with the new regulations coming into effect next year, a lot could change.
