Verstappen and Lambiase inseparable: 'Difficult with anyone else'

Max Verstappen and Gianpiero Lambiase are now indispensable in the top class of motorsport. Verstappen now has three Formula 1 world championships to his name. Since he joined Red Bull Racing, Lambiase has been his race engineer, and that bond has only grown.

"When I started with the team I was 18, now I'm 26, so you grow a lot as a person. But the relationship also grows. You spend a lot of time together, you go through a lot," Verstappen explained to Motorsport-Magazin. "There's a lot more to it. The relationship between engineer and driver is incredibly important."

Verstappen said several years ago that he would quit if his racing engineer also quit. He is still fully behind that. "Yes, because it is difficult to work with someone else when you have spent so many years together. GP needs a few more years, then he can go do something else [laughs]. But you never know what people want to do in their lives."

In 2023, Verstappen regularly had disagreements over the radio with his engineer, but that's all part of their relationship.
