Verstappen jokes about fine: "I hope they have a nice dinner"

There were several videos circulating this weekend of Max Verstappen inspecting and briefly touching the rear wing of the Mercedes after qualifying on Friday night. The Dutchman has to pay a fine of 50,000 euros because of the infringement.

To Motorsport.com Verstappen explains why he touched Lewis Hamilton' s rear wing. "Well, I was clearly looking at the wing. So, yeah, I mean, you can see on the video what I did exactly. I was just looking at how much the rear wing was flexing at that point. It had nothing to do with the DRS," he explained.

Verstappen can laugh at the fine he received for the infraction. "I hope they have a nice dinner and a lot of wine! I hope good, expensive wine – that would be nice. They can invite me for dinner as well – I’ll pay for that dinner too."

The Dutchman points out that he does have to pay the fine himself and not Red Bull Racing. "I do have to pay [the fine, not Red Bull]. So that’s a little bit less FIFA points for me then on my laptop," he joked.
