Red Bull's Max Verstappen was left furious after qualifying in China as the Dutchman's run-up to his final hot lap got interfered by both Renaults and Sebastian Vettel, leaving him without a second run in Q3.
As the 21-year-old prepared to give it his all in the final corners of his out lap, Verstappen got passed by both Vettel and the Renault cars, leaving him without space and time to get a proper run onto the start/finish straight. The result of this was that he couldn't get a second hot lap in and couldn't improve on his P5 position.
"We were just driving in a formation and suddenly, Vettel came by and the two Renaults after that," Verstappen explained to Ziggo Sport.
"They screw up your entire run-up, even though it's an unwritten rule that you just follow each other. But it doesn't matter, I'll screw up their qualifying from now on as well," said the Dutchman.
"We could've done better," he continued, "but if you can't do a second run, it stops there. The car felt good. In terms of pace we're there, it'll be an interesting Sunday."
