Richard Verschoor won the F2 Sprint Race in Barcelona after an amazing display.
After the Safety Car restart, no one could stop the Dutch driver. McLaren junior Alexander Dunne finished close behind the MP Motorsport car, and thanks to finishing in second place, he took the lead in the championship.
Rafael Villagómez completed the podium, finishing ahead of Aston Martin junior Jak Crawford and Sebastian Montoya.
After completing his first F1 FP1 session yesterday, Victor Martins finished in P6 ahead of Luke Browning and Leonardo Fornaroli. After spinning around because of making contact with the winner Verschoor,
Arvid Lindblad crossed the finish line in P9.
As it happened
Championship leader Luke Browning got off to a great start in Barcelona, and took the lead into Turn 1 starting from P3, and starting from pole position, Fornaroli was also overtaken by Jak Crawford.
On Lap 4, two drivers at the front had a great battle, and after even made contact exiting Turn 3, Crawford could take the lead from the British talent.
After the chaotic first few laps, not many overtakes were completed because of the DRS trains.
On Lap 14, Verschoor wanted to overtake Lindbland into Turn 1. After setting the fastest time in qualifying the day before, the Briton defended aggressively, and the two made contact. As a result, the Briton spun around. The incident will also investigated by the stewards after the race.
On Lap 18, another incident took place in the same corner, with the two Prema Racing drivers making contact. Both Gabriele Mini and Sebastian Montoya spun, and their cars stalled. As a result, the Safety Car was called out. That incident will also be investigated by the stewards.
After the restart, Crawford could keep his lead against Browning. However, it was the Verschoor show on the soft tyres once the Safety Car left the track. Together with championship contender Alexander Dunne, the two orange cars one-by-one overtook the drivers in front of them.
Starting the restart from P8, by Lap 24, Verschoor was in the lead, and Dunne was in second place. Also on the soft tyres, Rafael Villagómez finished in P3, after overtaking Crawford on the penultimate lap.
