In qualifying for the Diriyah E-Prix, in Saudi Arabia, Jean-Eric Vergne secured pole position for the race later in the afternoon. He beat Mitch Evans. Former F1 driver Nyck de Vries did not play a major role in qualifying, as he failed to make it through the qualifying group.

Vergne trumps Evans

The final between Vergne and Evens was quite an exciting one. The Frenchman was first on track, and eventually took pole position. It was very close, as the New Zealander was only 72 thousandths slower than the polesitter. At 18:00 [CET], the E-Prix will start, and De Vries and Frijns will have to make up a huge amount of ground to keep up.

De Vries out early

De Vries was in qualifying group A. For almost the entire session, the knockout stage was not within reach for the former AlphaTauri driver. The Dutchman finished at the very bottom at the end of the session. He recorded the slowest time of qualifying at 1:14:254.
