Sauber boss Fred Vasseur has said that his driver
Charles Leclerc has to table his career on
Ferrari for now in order to focus on the current season with Sauber.
Leclerc has been tipped as the next great Ferrari driver, as the youngster went through the ranks of the Ferrari academy and has impressed in his young career. He hasn't been in the same racing category for more than a year yet; he started in the Formula Renault, and after winning a few races he switched to the European Formula 3. He was comfortably the best driver there and won the GP3 and Formula 2 in the two years after.
"It's bad if he's looking at 2020 already," Vasseur said about Leclerc, who he knows ever since he was karting as a little boy.
Vasseur talks about Leclerc's progress daily with Ferrari, but he thinks his pupil should take things one day at a time, rather than looking too far ahead.
"That's a wrong attitude, he should be worrying about Sauber and not about Ferrari for now - I think he knows that."
"He has to show that he can learn and develop throughout the season, that's the most important thing."
