Vandoorne happy to stay out of trouble: 'Weren't quite perfect as a team'

Formula E championship leader Stoffel Vandoorne has a good chance of taking the world title this weekend. Mitch Evans prevented him from doing so in the first race in Seoul, but the Belgian will get a second chance in the second race on Sunday.

Saturday's race was held on a drying track, which made conditions difficult. For that reason, a massive crash occurred on the first lap involving eight drivers, including Nyck de Vries. The Dutchman saw his race end early, but Vandoorne escaped the chaos to finish in P5. As title rival Evans took the win, it was not enough to secure the championship.

"Today was really challenging in these tricky weather conditions. I think we as a team were perhaps not quite perfect, but still, we managed to stay out of trouble in the circumstances with all the incidents and score some vital points," Vandoorne explained in a Mercedes press release.

The title race is not yet decided, but Vandoorne still enjoys a 21-point lead over Evans. Evans will have to hope for a repeat of Saturday and a low score from the championship leader to secure the title in the final race of the season.
