The good news for Yuki Tsunoda: The Japanese driver was very close to Max Verstappen during the second free practice. The bad news: The Red Bull Racing driver finished only eleventh, one place behind the Dutchman.
When the second man from the Austrian team analyses his day in Monaco, he comes to the conclusion at F1 TV: “As usual, a bit of traffic, obviously, a story here. But yeah, I think it's the same as everyone. You know, it's all up to almost like luck to get a lap.”
Tsunoda states that he couldn't manage even one fast lap in FP1, although he fared slightly better in the second session. In FP2, it was ‘alright’. But still, he discovered a significant problem: “I think at least I was able to read the limitation from the softs. But it's kind of similar to the limitation I had in FP1. I just don't feel much step from the soft in terms of grip so that's what I'm struggling at a little bit.”

Tsunoda aims for improvement on Saturday

On the medium tYres, Tsunoda again couldn't do a fast lap, precisely at that moment there was a red flag. The Japanese driver thus hopes that both Red Bull and he himself can make a step forward on Saturday. “I need a couple of turns more. I'm sure there's a bit of potential there so I'll try to squeeze that myself.”

“Just keep [doing] what I'm doing, build up the pace and hopefully I can play well to get in the qualifying,” Tsunoda said.
