Three tenths between the best and worst drivers but three seconds between the cars

Sergio Perez believes that the current lack of competitive racing in Formula 1 is damaging the sport and believes between the best and the worst drivers there is only a very fine margin, but the cars create the gap.

In 2018 only Perez himself from outside the top three teams finished on a podium when he came in third at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. This season no driver from outside the big three have been on the podium and Mercedes have won every race apart from the last Grand Prix in Austria.

With Liberty Media's 2021 regulations supposedly meant to make the sport more entertaining Perez is hopeful that Formula 1 are aware of the issue and just want what is best for the sport.

"I think that is something bad for the sport and bad for drivers," Perez told a media group including GPBlog.com.

"It is something fundamentally wrong and I hope Formula 1 are aware and they just want to improve the racing," added the SportPesa Racing Point driver.
