Lorenz Frey-Hilti, team principal of Emil Frey Racing, has spoken out about the immense passion Max Verstappen has for racing. The Swiss is impressed with the dedication shown by the Dutchman.
After qualifying for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, Max Verstappen was clearly not done racing. On the evening before the seventh Formula 1 race of the season, the Red Bull driver sat down in his racing simulator. Under the Team Redline flag, the Dutchman participated in the iRacing Nürburgring Endurance race.
"He's addicted to motorsport," states Frey-Hilti in an interview with Motorsport.com. "He does this in his free time, but still, he talks late into the night with engineers and mechanics trying to improve our GT3 car. He knows all the details, also about all the GT3 drivers. He watches all our races and asks about the decisions we made - and why. So he asks a lot of questions. This dedication is unbelievable."
After sim racing late Saturday night, Verstappen convincingly won the race in Imola on Sunday.

Frey-Hilti highlights the 'Max factor'

Switching from a Formula 1 car to a GT3 is not obvious, says Frey-Hilti. "But even in the GT3, he is in a class of his own. I've raced a lot on the Nordschleife and remember it took me quite some time to get up to speed, even though I didn't game that much," he joked. "But it's really incredible. After just six laps he was already setting the fastest times."
The team principal of Emil Frey Racing is proud of the close collaboration with Verstappen. "We have a strong lineup of drivers and he tests for us. I think we have the best test driver in the world for a GT3 car," he states. "This is the Max factor. We can already test with many fast drivers, but he is unbelievable."
