The tyre allocations and optimal strategies have been released by Pirelli for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and they show that McLaren may have an advantage over Max Verstappen and Red Bull.
Lando Norris, Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri all have a chance to win the World Championship at the final race of the 2025 season, setting up a stunning grandstand finish.
Norris leads the way with 408 points, with Verstappen and Piastri 12 points and 16 points adrift, respectively, and there are chances for all three to take the world title.

Extra hard tyres for the McLarens

Norris will become World Champion if he finishes on the podium at the Yas Marina Circuit, while Max Verstappen needs to win and see Norris miss out on the podium.
Both drivers will start alongside each other, with Verstappen in P1 and ahead of Norris in P2 after a stunning qualifying lap. Despite that, McLaren team principal Andrea Stella believes his team have an advantage during the 58-lap race after both Norris and Piastri saved a set of hard tyres.
Pirelli believe that a one-stop strategy is optimal for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, with drivers expected to start on the medium tyres and change onto the hard tyres. The hard tyre and soft tyre strategy is also another one-stop strategy that could be expected.
In terms of tyre allocations, McLaren have more flexibility if tyre degradation is high, with Norris and Piastri having two new sets of hard tyres at their disposal, while Verstappen and Red Bull have just the one.
However, if the tyre degradation is not as high as expected, a second set of medium tyres could be more advantageous, and that is what Verstappen and Red Bull have over the two McLarens.
