The FIA has announced the confirmed starting grid for the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix. Max Verstappen will start the race from pole position after recording the fastest time in qualifying.
Friday's qualifying in Bahrain was very exciting as it actually remained unclear throughout the session who would eventually get pole position. At the end of Q3, Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen turned out to be the fastest. He was three tenths ahead of Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc. Although Leclerc thought that if he still had a fresh set of red tyres, he might have been able to take first place. So the Monegasque will start from second place, followed by Mercedes driver George Russell.
The biggest disappointment of qualifying were the two Alpines. Both Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly seemed unable to move forward. The two Frenchmen will start the Bahrain GP at the very back of the field.
Verstappen seems the big favourite for a win in Bahrain. Yet winning the race does not seem as obvious as it was in 2023. It looks like Ferrari have taken steps forward on race pace compared to last year and the Mercedes are not out of the question either.
