Sebastian Vettel has said that it would be a “shock” if the Brazilian Grand Prix was to leave Interlagos and head to Rio. The German racer believes that the history of the track is vital and questions whether a new circuit would be as successful.
“I think Interlagos is a great place, a lot of history,” he said to RaceFans. “I think the old track at Interlagos is even better than the current one but I couldn’t think of anything other than maybe the track being a little bit short that Interlagos is almost missing.”
A few days ago Brazil’s president Jair Bolsonaro announced that there were plans to move the location of the Brazilian Grand Prix to a new circuit in Rio which would be named after Ayrton Senna. The plan was to create the track and have it ready for the 2020 season.
It will be interesting to see if the plans go ahead or if the negative backlash is enough to halt the project.
