Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton looked set to fight for first position at the Italian Grand Prix, but instead, the drivers drove each other off the track. It resulted in the drivers not earning any points in the World Championship.
It's not for the first time that accidents happen in the battle for the World Championship, as Sainz also sees. The Spanish driver tells the post-race press conference that he can imagine drivers making wrong decisions in a fight.
"I think it's an accident that can always be avoided. If you don't want to crash, there is no accident," Sainz states. "They always go to the limit for the world championship and in those situations, you are more exposed. It's a natural thing in Formula 1 that two drivers competing for the world championship crash more often."

Sainz doesn't want to go into detail

Beyond that, however, Sainz did not want to give his opinion on what took place in Italy. "The accident is clear. I am not going to go into details or give my opinion. At the next drivers' meeting, we will undoubtedly talk about it."
