Sainz has great respect: 'I can only admire him'

For now, Carlos Sainz is clearly the second man at Ferrari. The Spaniard currently cannot match Charles Leclerc, who has the upper hand on him almost every race. However, there is no question of jealousy on Sainz's part.

Speaking to the official site of the Formula 1 Sainz praises his teammate. He indicates that he maintains a friendly relationship with Leclerc. Also, he has great respect for the way Leclerc is currently driving. "He’s driving at a very high level, he’s putting together super-impressive lap times, an impressive way of driving and I can only admire and try and in some ways copy, and in others try and put it a bit more in my liking to be faster. Sometimes it goes like this and as a driver you just need to go through a process and challenge yourself.”

A chance at the world title for Sainz this year already seems persecuted. The Spaniard has had too many lesser results, so the gap to the leaders in the championship is already very large. Moreover, Sainz is still waiting for his first victory. In the interview he indicated that it really will come soon.

Despite the distance to Leclerc, Ferrari is satisfied with Sainz. Team boss Mattia Binotto says: "I don't think that there are issues. Certainly, he needs to adapt by seeing that he has done a couple of mistakes, which are important. But nevertheless, I think that he is improving himself, he is going faster and faster.”
