Sainz admits apologising for being "rude" ahead of Austrian GP

Carlos Sainz had a spectacular race on Sunday, with the McLaren driver charging from P19 to P8 in Austria, but he has admitted he apologised for being "rude" earlier in the weekend.

The Spanish driver had to start all the way back in 19th-place after taking a grid penalty for a new engine that was fitted in his MCL34. This is something that clearly made Sainz a bit upset, something he had to apologise for.

"I was very depressed," Sainz admitted to Motorsport.com. "I don't know why I had a really bad day. I was in a bad mood the whole day.

"At some point I think I was even a bit rude because I had a very bad day and I apolgised to everyone because I think I had one of those painful days that you cannot wait to finish. I didn't even use qualy mode, so I didn't even get to feel the power of the new engine.

"On Sunday, I was a new man. Still I didn't expect to finish where I finished and have the pace that I had."

McLaren recorded another double-points finish in Austria, with Sainz's team-mate Lando Norris driving a tremendous race and finishing in sixth-position.
