George Russell has insisted that his times mean nothing from his few days in the Mercedes car after he topped the in-season testing standing in Bahrain this week.
Russell took a break from driving the Williams this week as he stepped into the Mercedes for the first time this season. He set a time of 1:29.029 to top the chart and further enhance his reputation as one of the biggest prospects in F1.
The Brit has struggled to compete this season in the weak Williams despite beating his teammate in both his opening two races in the premier division of motorsport. However, his time in the Mercedes seems to have given him a boost.
Speaking to The Chequered Flag Russell said: “Timings don’t mean a lot in testing; however, it’s always a special experience to be on top of the time-sheets.
“We had a very productive day today, the team learned a lot of things to help them progress.

“Driving a different car than usual, I personally also learned a lot which I can take back to further improve my driving.”
Russell will be back in the Williams car at the Chinese Grand Prix.
