Russell has clear goal: 'At the season opener in Bahrain'

George Russell can't wait to start the new season with Mercedes. In Barcelona, the British driver is preparing for the upcoming racing year and looks back on the second day of testing with enthusiasm.

Together with Lewis Hamilton, Russell should manage to compete with Red Bull Racing in 2022. Expectations are high, but it remains to be seen whether the driver can actually handle the level. He himself increasingly feels that he is ready for the new season.

The British driver emphasizes in conversation with Speekweek.com that he quickly got used to it at his new team. Russell is therefore full of self-confidence heading into the new season, knowing full well when he wants to be on the podium for the first time."At the season opener in Bahrain," he stressed in the interview.

Hamilton's new teammate notices that he already has the Mercedes car well under control. As a result, he says he is capable of great things. "I'm a bit amazed myself at how natural everything feels at Mercedes. As a junior I was always part of the Mercedes family, but the step up to factory driver was seamless."

According to Russell, however, Ferrari and McLaren are currently making the best impression. "Ferrari and McLaren seem to have the best control of this new generation of race cars at the moment, and their cars are performing really well in all conditions."
