George Russell has reacted after penning a new contract with the Mercedes F1 team. “2026, let’s do this 👊”
- George RussellThe 27-year-old took to social media to share his thoughts in the aftermath of the announcement. Posting a carousel of photos from his victory at the Singapore Grand Prix, Russell accompanied it with a caption hinting at his optimism for the future.
“2026, let’s do this 👊. Really proud to be continuing our journey together @mercedesamgf1 💪🔥”
Earlier, it was announced by the Mercedes team that Russell, alongside teammate
Kimi Antonelli, had signed contract extensions with the Brackley-based outfit. The
British driver’s deal is a multi-year contract, while his teammate’s is a one-year extension, as
GPblog earlier confirmed.
The news of Russell’s new deal comes amid swirling talks in the media about the long-term future of his partnership with Mercedes. These speculations were not helped by persistent reports of unmet contract terms.
With his contract extension now confirmed, it remains to be seen whether Wolff will consider making a move for Verstappen in the future.

Montoya tells Mercedes to ignore Verstappen

Montoya earlier urged Mercedes to opt against signing Verstappen. The ex-Formula 1 driver explained that Russell is proving to be a driver capable of matching the Red Bull Racing star.
The Colombian also hailed Russell for his two race victories through the 2025 campaign, highlighting how the Brit has continued to secure impressive results at circuits where Mercedes were expected to struggle.
