Everybody at McLaren will be feeling much better as they wake up this morning after finally completing a productive testing session posting 151 laps yesterday.
Stoffel Vandoorne finished in 6th place at the end of the day.
Fernando Alonso will hope for more of the same reliability as he goes out on track today in the MCL33.
After testing, Vandoorne said: “Today was a very positive day for us, a lot of laps obviously.
“This morning was good, we’ve been through a lot of set-up work, understanding about the tyre compounds, a lot of learning we’ve kind of missed a bit at the start of the week and also last week with the bad weather conditions so that was good to go through.
“This afternoon we’ve completed a full race distance which was nice to get all the laps under our belt, have a feel about the car in race conditions, go through different variations of tyres as well.
“I think it’s been a very productive day, my last day in the car as well so now looking forward to Melbourne.”
Thirty minutes into today’s session and Alonso is yet to set a timed lap, but has posted an installation lap.
Eric Boullier was also pleased that the team managed to get the car out for a long period of time saying: “As we near the end of our allocated eight test days, it’s very satisfying that we were able to turn our attention to race simulations and longer runs, which will all help towards preparing our package as comprehensively as possible ahead of the first race of the season and beyond.
“We also completed a number of further useful developments and correlation tests have been a very valuable portion of our test programme today.
“We’re still learning a lot, and every lap we do is extra useful data for our armoury.”
