Oscar Piastri received a 10-second time penalty for the safety car restart incident by the stewards. In their verdict, it was revealed by how much the Australian slowed down. In the cooldown room, talking to Nico Hulkenberg, the Australian said: "I got a 10 second-penalty for braking behind the Safety Car. I hit the brakes basically as the lights went out on the Safety Car, so then I didn't accelerate, and apparently that gets you a 10-second penalty."
Talking to Sky Sports, CEO Zak Brown also added: "I think Max accelerated, Oscar braked, which made it look worse than it was. The telemetry didn’t look like it looked on TV."
This is how much Piastri slowed down by!
In the stewards' verdict, it was revealed that Piastri suddenly braked hard with a brake pressure of 59.2 psi.
As a result, he slowed down from 218 kph to 52 kph. That means a deacceleration of 166 kph.
After serving his penalty in the pit lane, the Australian finished in second place behind his teammate Lando Norris.
That means the Briton has managed to cut the gap to only eight points in the drivers' standings to Piastri.
