Sergio Perez is optimistic about teaming up with
Lance Stroll at
Force India in 2019 despite his father leading the consortium that bought the team.
Canadian,
Stroll joins
Force India on the back of his father Lawrence buying the team through a consortium and renaming them
Racing Point.
"I do not know him very well as a driver.
In Formula 1 it is very difficult to compare yourself to a rider from another team, 95 per cent of your results come through the car," said
Perez.
"Because of his car, he had a bad season, I think Williams had a lot of problems. “But he certainly has talent."
Perez felt
Stroll has proved himself in tough situations despite having a bad car.
"When it is wet, he always shows himself well with a bad car,” Perez said referencing the 2017
Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
“He is now coming to a great team, so he is in excellent hands to show his full potential."
Perez added that he isn’t worried about Stroll’s arrival given his father’s position saying:
"Everyone, including the owners, has an interest in making the team successful. “That's why both cars must be as good as possible.
"We both have to work hard and work together to get the team to the fore as far as possible."
