Perez more at ease: 'Red Bull updates in 2023 less radical'

In 2022, Sergio Perez believed his Red Bull became less and less to his liking after continuous upgrades. However, he feels that this season is different, with the Mexican saying that he has a car that changes less radically in terms of this year's updates.
Last season, Perez noticed that the RB18 became increasingly difficult for him to control throughout the year. The car suffered from some understeer at the beginning of the season, and the oversteer increased more and more over the 2022 season. The car got faster, but Perez became less and less comfortable with it.

Updates from Red Bull

In 2023, Red Bull are also trying to make the RB19 increasingly faster, but Perez has less of a sense that the car is changing completely. ''I think last year was very extreme because we had like 15 kilos overweight, and so the car changed a lot from the beginning to the end. Now I think it's just a much more normal season in terms of those upgrades,'' Perez said in a press conference with GPblog.
In Spain, Red Bull Racing entered with modifications to the floor and diffuser. Those updates helped Max Verstappen to a dominant win at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, but Perez made his weekend more difficult by failing to get through Q2 on Saturday. On Sunday, the Mexican still managed to finish fourth but lost ground in the title race to Verstappen again.

Perez revealed before the weekend that he believes he can match Verstappen and is still going for the title despite falling behind. The question is whether he still thinks so after his defeat in Spain. In any case, Christian Horner felt that Perez is putting too much pressure on himself and perhaps should be less concerned with beating Max. After all, that seems like an impossible task for anyone at the moment.
