Could Verstappen have won the Australian GP? Perez responds!

The Australian Grand Prix did not turn out to be the race Red Bull Racing had hoped for beforehand. On the fourth lap of the race, Max Verstappen dropped out with problems on his RB20, and Sergio perez did not come close to the podium either. The driver with number 11 on the car gives his findings on Sunday's race.

Perez is not really happy with Red Bull's performance and says there are still some things to be done. "We just didn't have the pace, unfortunately. I think we struggled early on. We could see that Ferrari and McLaren were a step ahead of us. I think we just couldn't get the balance in a window. And, yes, there is some work to do for the coming races. It was a very unique tarmac. And we just, throughout the weekend, we were not able to manage the best possible grip level.," the Mexican told Sky Sports.

Verstappen's teammate explained what was most difficult for the team. Something that came up more than once this weekend. "We didn't have the pace throughout the weekend. We were struggling already from Friday. And we never got on top of the management of tyres."

When Perez is asked whether Ferrari would have won even without Verstappen's failure, the Mexican answers decisively: "Absolutely, yes." Just before the Dutchman had to retire, Verstappen was already overtaken by Sainz on the track. Ferrari were also strong enough to claim P2, landing Sainz and Charles Leclerc on the two highest steps of the podium.
