Jeffrey Herlings has suffered an injury to his left foot that may force the reigning motocross world champion to withdraw from the opening races of the MXGP series.
The official Instagram account of the Red Bull KTM team released a statement on Monday. "MXGP World Champion Jeffrey Herlings will seek medical advice for a left foot injury sustained while riding in Spain today (Monday)," the message reads.
The statement continued that Herlings arrived short on a small standard jump, after which he immediately stopped his session and went home for a consultation. "More information will be issued in due course," the message reads.

Herlings suffers foot injury just before MXGP championship start

The injury comes just one day after Herlings won the opening round of the RFME Spanish Motocross Championship. With just under three weeks to go until the opening round of the Motocross World Championship, it remains to be seen whether Herlings will be present there.

However, it is not yet known how serious the injury is and it is not strange for motorcycle riders in general to race with broken limbs, so it is quite possible that the world champion will just appear at the start.
