Nikita Mazepin already made himself unpopular before his Formula One debut by sharing a video on social media in which he groped a woman. This earned him and Haas a lot of criticism, but after internal consultation that event is a closed book. However, now that the Russian is representing Haas, he is not popular on the track either.

Violation of the gentlemen's agreement

The Russian has already been dubbed 'MazeSpin' and 'Massaspin', because he regularly spins backwards and forwards on the track. It's clear that the driver is struggling with the car, whereas Mick Schumacher has clearly mastered it better. In Spain Mazepin was again one of the topics of discussion. This because of violating the 'gentlemen's agreement', as well as 'ignoring' blue flags.
Esteban Ocon of Alpine F1 Team is not very confident when he encounters the Russian driver on the track. The Frenchman quotes GrandPX.news The Frenchman who admits to being afraid of Mazepin. Ocon: "Does he scare me? Yes, yes." The rule is obviously that drivers give each other enough space and respect each other on the track, but after Mazepin's antics, Ocon is anything but reassured about that.
For example, Ocon continued, "When we crossed each other on the track, I paid 200 percent more attention to him than to other drivers." In short, Ocon is very careful when meeting. This is to avoid it ending in tears. So far Mazepin is being defended by the team, but it is clear that the Russian needs to do something about his driving. After four races he is the subject of discussion on several occasions and systematically in a negative way.
