Fernando Alonso will not combine Formula 1 with a participation in the Indy 500 in 2021 and 2022, as the Spanish driver has said, now that he is preparing for the Indy 500 of 2020.
''I think I'm approaching this race in a way that I have to assume I won't be here for the next two years. If I do want to come, I'll miss the qualifying weekend, if I want it at all," says Alonso according to Motorsportweek.com. The Spaniard is still active for the McLaren team this year.

Alonso returns to F1

From 2021, however, Alonso will be in action for the Renault Formula 1 team and he won't be able to miss a Formula 1 race weekend to qualify for the Indy 500. In addition, he won't be working with McLaren and that changeover will be more difficult. If Alonso doesn't win the Indy 500 this year, his dream on the Triple Crown will be postponed for a few more years.
''I won't be driving at McLaren next year in Formula 1, so that just won't work for the next two years. This is how it is and I will enjoy it this year and do my best to help the team as much as possible. Let's see what the future holds. If you win the race one time, it will also offer new opportunities", concludes Alonso.
