The Mexican Grand Prix is set to be dropped from the Formula 1 calendar in 2020 in favour of the newly announced return of the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.
Mexico returned to the F1 calendar back in 2015 after an absence of 23 years but is now rumoured to be the next venue to make way for the upcoming Vietnam and Dutch Grands Prix.
According to ESPN Mexico, the government agency Corporación Interamericana de Entretenimiento (CIE) that is responsible for organising the event does not have necessary funding from the country's government to agree on a new deal with Liberty Media.
Mexico's new president Andrés Manuel López Obrador has denied the access to 800 million pesos in favour of a possible ‘Mayan Train’ railway project.
Along with the Spanish Grand Prix which is also expected to be scrapped next season, the 2019 Mexican Grand Prix is likely to be the last event at the circuit, having won the 'best F1 race on the calendar' vote two years running.
