The Mexico Grand Prix has been in doubt for some time now and the President of Mexico might have just put the final nail in the coffin.
Race promoters have until the end of February to agree on a deal and the Mexican GP is currently on a knife edge with their current deal set to expire this year.
In a press conference Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador addressed the matter saying: “I do not know how the F1 contracts are if they are not signed, we will not be able to.
"In some cases, these events were financed by the tourism development fund and that fund is committed to the construction of the Mayan train.
"We do not know in what situation those contracts are, we are going to review them, we will continue to support all sports but with austerity, without excess, without waste.”

Before these revelations, the speculation surrounding the future of one F1’s most vibrant races had been mainly rumours and nothing is set in stone especially when the race promoter denied comment to Motorsport.com.
The Mexican GP’s five-year deal comes to an end in 2019.
