Mercedes wants to have halved emissions by 2022

Mercedes have announced that the goal for the coming season is to become CO2 neutral. Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas's team plan to halve CO2 emissions by 2022 and aim to be an example for other teams.

Toto Wolff said in a Mercedes press release: "We want our platform to be an example for fast and open innovations for a sustainable future."

The team will do all they can to become CO2 neutral in 2020. The goal they then have in mind is to reduce emissions by 50 percent by 2022.

In addition to reducing emissions, Mercedes are also working at the factory to deal more sustainably with the developments they make for the car. In Brackley they are already re-using energy. At the Mercedes chassis factory, they already use this reusable energy for all activities in the factory, such as the wind tunnel, the data center and the test benches.

Mercedes' ultimate goal is to halve emissions in 2022 compared to 2018. In 2018 the emissions were around 20,000 tonnes and in 2022 they want to see those emissions at 10,000 tonnes. This change coincides with the change in Formula 1 itself, which also aims to become CO2 neutral by 2030.
