A filmmaker with a soft spot for Ronnie Peterson, Gilles Villeneuve, Mika Hakkinen and above all, Tazio Nuvolari and Ayrton Senna, is also a diehard Formula One fan since the age of 4 (mid-90's). Max Verstappen enters 2025 as the reigning World Champion. According to betting shops, however, the Dutchman is not the favourite to take the crown again this season. Ahead of the F1 75 event, Verstappen was asked whether Red Bull and himself have been underestimated ahead of the upcoming Formula 1 season.
Last season, Verstappen may have become Champion, but it was not easy. The Dutchman had to make do with an RB20 that often lacked performance, while their rival teams, McLaren and Ferrari managed to develop their car at a better rate.
In the end, Verstappen's Championship was never under any real threat, but Red Bull did fall short in the Constructors' Championship, which McLaren ended up taking home to Woking, with Lando Norris being the biggest contributor to the British team's success racking up four wins over the year.
Verstappen not favourite at the bookies
As far as betting agencies go, the odds are in Norris' favor. Verstappen was then asked about whether he thinks Red Bull is being understimated by the betting shops: "First of all, I don't like to gamble. But it's fine. We just have to focus on ourselves. There is no reason to look at others. We know we have to work on the car and that's what we will do."
