Marko explains: 'That's why we said Max had to stop immediately'

Helmut Marko saw Max Verstappen retire with problems on his car during the Australian Grand Prix. Where it initially seemed to be engine problems, the Red Bull Racing advisor now expects something else. He tells Sky Sports.

Verstappen seemed to have to settle for a second final position Sunday morning when he suddenly pulled his car over. The Austrian racing team soon knew it was wrong. "Gasoline had leaked out of the car," explained Marko. "But we don't know where and how."

It's reminiscent of the Bahrain GP, in which a vacuum in the fuel supply occurred. There was no question of that in Australia, however, Marko assures. "There was just a huge leak of fuel. That's why we told him to stop immediately - preferably where there was a fire extinguisher immediately."

Leclerc was the big winner of the weekend. Thanks to an excellent qualifying session, the driver was allowed to start the race at the front and hardly had any problems. As a result, he remains on top in the world championship, while Verstappen can be found in sixth place.
