After it was announced that
Valtteri Bottas will be driving for
Alfa Romeo Racing in 2022, there were many questions about the second seat with the team. Soon the name
Guanyu Zhou was mentioned and it is starting to look more and more like he will actually take a seat next to the Finn, as reported by
Blick.
Antonio Giovinazzi and
Kimi Raikkonen have been driving together at Alfa Romeo since 2019, but that will come to an end this year. Raikkonen had already announced his retirement, but Blick
reports that Giovinazzi will probably also not drive in
Formula 1 next year. It seems increasingly likely that
Guanyu Zhou will step in in 2022.
Helmut Marko thinks the Chinese driver does not only bring millions, but also talent.
"With Bottas you have a very experienced man and Zhou has now proven for three years in Formula 2 that he is ready for higher duties. With the great equipment, the modern wind tunnel and now a good budget, things should actually move forward with the team in 2022!" Hope for better results
The Italian racing stable will certainly be hoping for progress, as the team is currently second last in the Constructors' Championship. Both Alfa Romeo drivers have eleven points combined, but hopefully that will only increase next year.
